To calculate our impact we consider how much we have spent on activities against the estimated number of lives saved.
Our calculator includes assumptions regarding the standard vegetarian:omnivore ratio, the composition of each respective diet (e.g. meals containing beef, chicken, fish etc.), and the meals provided by each animal (e.g. a chicken averages to four meals provided, a cow averages to 980).
To date, our current cost per life saved averages at £10 per animal saved.
This is the direct result of substitution at those particular meals, and doesn’t even consider the indirect effects of our mission (long term behaviour change).
This is far cheaper than the cost of up-keeping animals in an animal sanctuary and represents a good return on investment in preventing suffering to animals. We do not aim to disparage animal welfare charities and their important work, but we simply want to highlight the need to tackle this issue at the root cause of demand rather than simply dealing with the issues coming from the supply side.
